Chandigarh, January 21

After talks with Vice Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover over quarrel between Registrar and Prof Rajesh Gill failed, the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) held a protest before the Senate’s meeting today. Prof Gill, who is PUTA president also, and Registrar Col GS Chadha (retd) have both leveled allegations of misbehavior against each other. On January 16, PUTA executive passed a resolution against Registrar Col Chadha. It resolved that a resolution be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor asking the Registrar to tender an apology to “PUTA within 24 hours of handing over the said resolution, lest PUTA shall start an agitation”. In that regard, PUTA executive met Vice-Chancellor on Saturday but he walked out of the meeting. The VC had earlier sent the complaint of PUTA president to a standing committee headed by Prof Rajat Sandhir. But PUTA executive had decided that Prof Gill wouldn’t appear before the standing committee. The issue between Prof Gill and Col Chadha dates back to January 2. Col Chadha had in his report, filed before standing committee, said that Prof Gill barged into his room and threatened him that he would see what would happen. He added that Prof Gill had harassed him earlier too by filing false complaints. On the other hand, Prof Gill had complained that the Registrar was to sign a document regarding her project and he was deliberately delaying it.
